Champagne with your own label: what to watch out for

A bottle of champagne with your own label is one of the few corporate gifts people actually keep. Which is exactly why the label must not look cheap.

Why champagne works so well

Champagne has something a pen or a power bank never gets: a moment. The bottle is not used up straight away, it waits until there is something to celebrate. Until then your logo sits on your client's shelf.

The label: dark stock or bright white

On a champagne bottle a calm design almost always beats a busy one. A deep colour with a single accent reads as more expensive than four colours competing. If you really want to impress, die-cutting, cold foil and a magnetic closure on the box are the details people put their fingers on.

Cava, prosecco or champagne?

Champagne may only be called that when it comes from the Champagne region. Cava and prosecco are not a lesser choice, they are a different one: lighter in taste and friendlier in price, which keeps a larger run inside budget. For a staff party of three hundred that is often the sensible answer.

Quantities and lead time

The same applies here: from 50 bottles and roughly 6 to 8 weeks from a final design. For December that is critical, because everybody wants theirs at once. Start in September and your planning stays calm.

Three pitfalls

  • A low-resolution logo. On paper you see every pixel; supply vector artwork.
  • Text too close to the edge. On a curved bottle it disappears into the bend.
  • Forgetting the label gets wet in an ice bucket. Pick a finish that can take it.
